A Multicultural and Colorful Festival of Caribbean Islands

We all are well aware that Caribbean carnivals are world popular for their magnificence, extravaganza, melodious music and colorful costumes. Various small and big carnivals are celebrated in the Caribbean community, in which the enthusiasm of the people is must to watch. Nottingham Caribbean Carnival is one good example of this. It is one of the most wonderful, lively and colorful festivals of the Islands. It is a two days festival of fun, thrill, entertainment and family gathering. The grandness of the carnival attracts thousands of people from all over the world to participate and witness this cultural fiesta.

The carnival was first observed and rejoiced in the year 1970 by a group of West Indians. In this group, the participants were mainly from the St Kitts Island, and they carried out a carnival street parade in the Meadows. Subsequent to the fun-filled celebration of 1970, it became an important annual celebration for Nottingham’s black community. The festival celebration was cancelled in the year 1998, which acted as a catalyst for all the events and activities that are being celebrated in today’s time. In the following year i.e. 1999, the carnival was re-established after effectively handling all the issues, concerning health, security and safety.

Now-a-days, the carnival is celebrated as a multicultural festival, a perfect mixture of diverse culture. In this enthusiastic carnival fête, parade of mass bands takes place, and the white and Asian communities are encouraged to take part. The carnival is organized by Nottingham Carnival Trust with Tuntum Housing Association. As stated earlier, it is two days of family amusement that takes into account various activities and events of all the communities. Events that are performed during the festival include workshops, funfair, stalls, créche facilities, music tents, a number of live performances from the main stage, and many more.

This one of the leading Caribbean carnivals of UK is for the masses, and there is something for everyone! This year, it is going to be celebrated on August 22 and August 23, 2015.
